The 11th CREDAWARD Design Awards concluded successfully on the evening of September 12 in Shanghai. As an internationally recognized competition with strong influence and credibility in architectural design, it attracted 295 institutions and 1,042 submissions. Among them, the Shanghai AXIOM Twin Towers, developed by US developer Tishman Speyer, designed by world-renowned architect Ole Scheeren, and with façades by Inhabit, stood out for its forward-looking design concept and outstanding quality, winning the Gold Award.
Located at the gateway of Shanghai’s New Jiangwan City, AXIOM Twin Towers cover a total floor area of approximately 290,000 square meters and consist of 280-meter and 250-meter towers. The project has become a landmark reshaping the Yangpu skyline. The design team adopted a breakthrough “core tube relocation” approach, breaking traditional tower forms, and created a striking vertical composition that forms the city’s distinctive “Smart Eye.” The complex includes premium office spaces, boutique retail, an international hotel, and shared green spaces, creating a mixed-use urban hub integrating business, lifestyle, and culture. However, the exposed core tubes and extensive glass façades pose significant challenges for thermal performance and energy efficiency.
To address the façade system’s challenges in thermal bridging, insulation continuity, and energy consumption, the project applied Warmframe’s high-performance curtain wall thermal insulation blanket system. Using a flexible, high-performance inorganic composite material, the system efficiently fills and continuously covers complex façade nodes and exposed core tube areas, effectively blocking thermal bridges and ensuring the overall thermal performance of the envelope. After multiple rounds of optimization, the Warmframe insulation blankets not only met energy-saving standards but also maintained stable performance under extreme climate conditions, providing a solid foundation for occupant comfort and sustainable operation in high-rise buildings.
The successful completion of AXIOM Twin Towers demonstrates the perfect integration of international cutting-edge design and green technology.
